Questions I often get asked about using a tailors clapper:
'Do you use the clapper as a mini ironing board?'
No - the clapper is used together with a hot iron. Initially you iron your sewing project as normal. Then, as soon as you take the iron off you pop the clapper down and this 'seals' the fold in a way that the iron doesn't.
'Should I use it with steam?'
You can do, but it works without too. If you are working with a very thick fabric steam will be helpful. Equally if working with wool fabrics; set your iron to a low heat level with some steam, once pressed use your clapper to create folds that hold for much longer.
