How Thread Pegs Began
When I first started learning to sew in 2014, I had big plans but a very small space. Living in a compact flat, I was determined to create a sewing corner where I could make all my own clothes without having to put all my sewing supplies away each time I used them.
The Space Challenge
As any sewer knows, the supplies add up quickly. Cotton reels, bobbins, tools, scissors, fabric – suddenly my small sewing corner in my hallway was overflowing with materials I needed but had nowhere to properly store. I was spending more time hunting for the right thread or untangling bobbins than actually sewing.
I tried various storage solutions, but nothing seemed designed for the reality of sewing in a small space. Generic storage boxes didn't accommodate the unique shapes and sizes of sewing supplies. I needed something that would keep my growing collection of threads and tools organised while fitting into my limited space. I decided to use as much wall space as possible.
Using Wall Space
Out of necessity, I started creating my own storage solutions. I designed organisers that made the most of vertical space, kept threads visible and accessible, and prevented the dreaded bobbin tangle. My little sewing corner in the hallway transformed from chaotic to organised.
When Others Noticed
I never planned to start a business. I was just enjoying my hobby sewing my own clothes and trying to keep my workspace functional. But friends and family who also sewed asked about my storage pegboards, wanting to know if I would make one for them too.
"You should sell these," they kept saying. "Other sewers would love this."
Encouraged by their enthusiasm, I decided to share my creations online. I started with Etsy, posting a few of my handmade pegboards. The response was incredible! It turned out I wasn't the only one struggling with sewing organisation in small spaces.
Messages came from fellow sewers who were thrilled to find storage that actually worked for their needs. Everyone, it seemed, loves having a tidy workspace – especially when it makes their creative time more enjoyable and productive.
Growing From There
What started as solving my own problem quickly grew into something bigger. I realised that many sewers, especially those just starting their journey like I was, faced the same organisational challenges. Thread Pegs became my way of helping others create the functional, organised sewing spaces they needed to focus on what they love most: creating.
The Mission Today
Today, Thread Pegs is all about helping sewers of all levels make the most of their creative spaces. Whether you're working in a dedicated sewing room or carving out a corner of your living room, good organisation shouldn't be a luxury – it should be accessible and practical.
Every product I create is born from real experience and tested in real sewing spaces. Because I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to lose creative momentum searching for supplies, and how satisfying it is when everything has its perfect place.
From my cluttered sewing corner to your organised creative space – that's the Thread Pegs story. And I hope it helps you organise your sewing room or space.
